GoAnywhere MFT

El Corte Inglés

File exchange via SFTP, FTPS and FTP with clients and suppliers

El Corte Inglés is a Spanish multinational with more than 80 years of history. Its annual turnover, its more than 80,000 employees and its presence in 11 countries make it the largest department store chain in Europe.

Their need

For years, the IT and Business departments of El Corte Inglés performed daily FTP file transfers using a commercial solution. Technological advancement and the development of new tools that provide a higher level of security has prompted El Corte Inglés to incorporate new protocols with high quality standards.

In this context, different MFT solutions on the market were evaluated and finally GoAnywhere MFT, Fortra’s Managed File Transfer solution, was chosen. Now, El Corte Inglés performs file transfers using SFTP, FTPS, FTP and HTTPS, all with the same solution.

In addition to using SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS protocols, other requirements that El Corte Inglés needed to meet with the new tool were:

  • Having a more stable and standard solution in line with the company’s reference technologies such as Linux and SQL.
  • Easy integration of the new solution with El Corte Inglés ecosystem.
  • Migrating users from Axway and integrating authentication with the company’s task scheduler.
  • Possibility to transfer the workload from Axway to GoAnywhere with minimal necessary modifications.

Our solution

Once they opted for GoAnywhere, the implementation and deployment of the product took a short time, thanks to its ease of use and integration capabilities. Migrating all the FTP functionality they had in the old platform to the new one was done without any issues. NexTReT, Fortra’s Business Partner, implemented the MFT platform and since then has been in charge of the evolutionary and corrective support of the solution.

Users who needed to secure their file transfers quickly learned how to use GoAnywhere, because allows them to manage all their file transfer processes through a central control panel that is intuitive and easy to use.

Furthermore, GoAnywhere offers auditing and traceability features to view the historical movement of files, and detailed reports can be generated. Having this information is useful for conducting forensic analysis of incidents and preventing their recurrence.

El Corte Inglés needed its MFT solution to be operational at all times. Therefore, they installed the new tool in a High Availability (HA) scheme, which ensures the continuity of all its functionalities.

When carrying out this system migratio, they transitioned from an Active/Passive cluster model to an Active/Active platform with load balancing between systems. So you not only protect yourself from possible service outages, but you can also balance the load of a high volume of transfers between two servers.

Results

Every day, IT and Business users El Corte Inglés transfer an average of 100,000 critical files for their work to over 500,000 recipients. To achieve this, they have developed over 850 automated workflows on the platform, with 550 enabled connections. The tool allows them to utilize four transfer protocols, according to the needs of each sector: FTP, SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS.

Users can easily create new automated file transfer processes using drag and drop options, eliminating the need for coding or scripting and making it more accessible for non-IT users.

They can easily monitor the status of transfers in real-time and receive automatic alerts in case of failures in file sending or reception. This helps system administrators to quickly troubleshoot issues.
