The Generalitat of Catalonia, through the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency, has published this month the 2022 cybersecurity sector report.
This report reviews the trends from this year onwards as a comparison of the sector with previous years, not only in Catalonia, but also globally.
The cybercrime trend is on the rise with no intention of slowing down, some of the notable headlines worldwide are:
- During 2021, a ransomware attack occurred every 11 seconds, but it is estimated that in 2031 it will be every 2 seconds.
- Cybercrime costs will grow by €9.5 billion per year by 2025.
- Digital advertising fraud causes losses of €46 million per day.
Not very different are the trends in Catalonia, which even though the GCI (Global Cybersecurity Index), an index that measures the level of commitment of countries in terms of cybersecurity, awarded Catalonia eighth place in the group of states of the EU, the level of cyber-attacks has increased.
- Ransomware attacks published in the media increased by 200% during 2021.
- Cyber-attacks against the public sector have increased by 80% in municipalities and universities.
The forecast for this 2022 is that cybersecurity is the central axis in a fully digitized and connected society. Emergence of new regulations and measures to create a cybersecure ecosystem.
New technologies will also be accompanied by new cyber-attacks that will require an optimal level of security.
