The Catalan public health system has announced the implementation of new digital solutions aimed at facilitating public access to the health system and empowering users by allowing them to have their own information, putting the patient at the center, and improving their clinical safety.

Catalonia becomes the first region in the European Union to develop a tool that allows users to securely share their clinical data with other health systems or fields such as research. This tool, known as Blue Button, is an initiative that originated in the United States in 2010 to enable war veterans to access their medical records. Now, the Catalan health system has integrated this functionality into its platform, La Meva Salut, following the standards of the European Union and the guidelines of the Integrated Healthcare Enterprise (IHE).

What data can be downloaded?

Currently, users can download from La Meva Salut:

• Patient summary: Includes diagnoses, treatments, vaccines, test results, and allergies.
• Hospital discharge reports: All those available in La Meva Salut.

In the future, access will be expanded to more reports and data.

What can you do?

• Download documents in XML format, intended for professionals with compatible systems.
• Share the downloaded documents with total security.
• Share personal data with clinical and population research projects under established conditions.

How does it work?

To access these data, you need to:

1. Log in to La Meva Salut from a computer or mobile device.
2. Go to Personal Data and in the Health Data module to share, click Download.
3. Select the files to download and click the Download button.
