Every January 28, European Data Protection Day is celebrated, a date that reminds us of the importance of protecting our personal and corporate information in an increasingly digital environment. At NexTReT, we work daily to help organizations protect their systems, but cybersecurity also starts with each user’s habits.
We share five simple and highly effective recommendations to improve your digital security:
- Use strong and different passwords for each account
Avoid using the same password across multiple services. A secure password should combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, and should not include obvious personal information. - Enable two-step verification (2FA)
Whenever possible, enable two-factor authentication on your apps and websites. This system adds an extra layer of security, as in addition to your password you will need an additional code to log in. - Keep your software and applications up to date
Updates not only add new features, they also fix security vulnerabilities. Keeping your operating system, antivirus, and applications up to date significantly reduces the risk of attacks. - Avoid public Wi-Fi networks for sensitive activities
Open networks can be insecure. Avoid making online purchases, carrying out banking transactions, or accessing confidential information when connected to a public Wi-Fi network. - Be cautious of suspicious links and messages
Emails, SMS messages, or WhatsApp messages with strange links may be phishing attempts. Before clicking, check the sender and the content, and if in doubt, do not click on the link.
Data protection is a shared responsibility. Adopting good digital practices helps prevent incidents and protect both your personal information and that of your organization.
At NexTReT, we continue to promote awareness and cybersecurity as fundamental pillars of digital transformation.
